Overview

Summary

The Business Analyst’s role is to analyze, specify, and validate the business needs of the organization, with a strong focus on enterprise-scale processes and ERP-driven operations. In this role, the BA will plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operational systems in support of core organizational functions and end-to-end processes. This includes hands-on experience with NetSuite ERP (including configuration), and direct exposure to business functions such as order management, purchasing, warehouse/inventory, billing, accounts payable/receivable, and accounting.

The Business Analyst will gather and analyze data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and system requirements. The role also supports delivery teams throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring that project deliverables meet defined specifications. The individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills—together with practical ERP/NetSuite functional knowledge—to maximize the value of IT system investments across the enterprise.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree in software engineering, computer science, business administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of business analyst experience (proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development).
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite ERP in an enterprise environment, including configuration of saved searches, workflows (SuiteFlow), forms, roles/permissions, reports, and dashboards.
  • Demonstrated experience across order management, purchasing, warehouse/inventory, billing, accounts payable/receivable, and accounting/GL processes.
  • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user‑friendly language (BRDs/FRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria).
  • 2+ years direct experience creating test scripts and executing testing such as Smoke, String, Unit, Load, System, QA, UAT, PIV, Regression or others.
  • Strong knowledge of testing best practices and methodologies and experience testing ERP (web) applications; familiarity with desktop tooling as needed.
  • Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem‑solving abilities; comfort working with ERP data models and master/transaction data.
  • Excellent PC skills and technical fluency; familiarity with software and database development concepts and network architecture at a high level.
  • Experience with formal project management methodologies (e.g., Agile/Scrum, hybrid, or Waterfall).
  • Exemplary attention to detail and documentation rigor.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • NetSuite certifications (e.g., SuiteFoundation, NetSuite Administrator, ERP Consultant) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience overseeing the design, configuration, testing, and implementation of ERP/NetSuite solutions and related systems/products.
  • Experience with SuiteAnalytics (workbooks), SuiteFlow; familiarity with SuiteScript concepts is a plus (hands‑on coding not required for this role).
  • Experience with integrations/iPaaS (e.g., Celigo, Boomi, MuleSoft) and ERP REST/SOAP integrations; understanding of web services and error handling.
  • Experience importing data for use in reporting software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flowcharts; comfort with CSV imports and data reconciliation in NetSuite.
  • Experience creating project charters, process diagrams, functional specifications, report layouts, training materials, use cases, and system test scripts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user‑friendly language and to facilitate cross‑functional workshops.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment; self‑motivated and able to work independently.
  • Experience working in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience with core software applications, including MS CRM, SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics GP (or equivalent ERP/CRM), SQL Server 2005 and above.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Meets with executive leadership, decision makers, business owners (Finance, Supply Chain/Operations, Sales), technical owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve system issues—with particular focus on ERP/NetSuite‑enabled processes (order management, purchasing, warehouse/inventory, billing, AP/AR, accounting).
  • Collaborates with project managers and sponsors to determine project scope and vision, including NetSuite enhancements, configurations, and integrations impacting order‑to‑cash (O2C), procure‑to‑pay (P2P), inventory, and record‑to‑report (R2R) processes.
  • Identifies project stakeholders and establishes roles and responsibilities (process owners, change champions, super users) across Finance, Operations, and IT.
  • Conducts interviews and product analysis to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods; maps current/future state process flows for ERP processes.
  • Develops and utilizes standard templates (e.g., BRDs/FRDs, user stories with acceptance criteria) to accurately and concisely write requirement specifications tailored for ERP/NetSuite delivery.
  • Translates conceptual user requirements into clear functional requirements and NetSuite configuration specifications that are comprehensible to developers and the project team.
  • Develops prototypes and proofs of concept—e.g., NetSuite form/layout changes, saved searches, dashboards, and workflow (SuiteFlow) samples—based on findings.
  • Analyzes and verifies requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards; validates data and transaction flows within NetSuite and to adjacent systems.
  • Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of requirements analysis to define impact, outcome criteria, and measurement approaches; frames ERP constraints and dependencies.
  • Works with stakeholders and the project team to prioritize the ERP/NetSuite backlog based on business value, risk, and effort.
  • Creates process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts (e.g., swimlane process maps, data flow diagrams) to provide direction to developers and/or the project team; documents NetSuite module interactions and data entities (customers, vendors, items, transactions).
  • Develops and conducts peer reviews to ensure that requirement specifications, NetSuite configurations, and test scenarios are correctly interpreted.
  • Manages and tracks the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; maintains traceability from requirements to NetSuite configuration, test cases, and release notes; enforces and redefines as necessary.
  • Communicates changes, enhancements, and modifications—verbally or through written documentation—to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood; prepares ERP change impact assessments and cutover plans.
  • Researches, reviews, and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements‑gathering processes and develops strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes; stays current with NetSuite release notes and proposes feature adoption.
  • Assists in conducting research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts; evaluates SuiteApps/bundles and integration tools (e.g., iPaaS) where applicable.
  • Establishes practices and procedures that work toward the continuous improvement of the requirements process; contributes to ERP change management and governance standards.
  • Provides guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members and functional super users.

ERP/NetSuite–Specific Responsibilities (in scope of BA/configuration):

  • Configure NetSuite (non-code) components including custom fields/records, forms, roles & permissions, saved searches, reports, dashboards, and workflows (SuiteFlow).
  • Support Finance and Operations in maintaining key ERP master data (e.g., items, customers, vendors) and transactional controls (e.g., approvals, posting rules) in alignment with policy.
  • Define and execute test strategies for ERP changes (Smoke, System, UAT, Regression), create test scripts, manage UAT cycles, and document outcomes.
  • Coordinate data imports/migrations (e.g., CSV import) and validate data accuracy and reconciliation before/after cutovers.
  • Partner with integration teams on ERP integrations (e.g., CRM, WMS, payment gateways, reporting/BI), defining data contracts and exception handling.
  • Provide hypercare and post‑go‑live support, triaging ERP issues, analyzing root causes, and driving resolution and continuous improvement.
